Youth and Teen Support

  • The years between childhood and adulthood can be exciting, challenging, and sometimes overwhelming. As young people navigate school, friendships, family relationships, identity development, and growing responsibilities, they may experience stress, anxiety, emotional struggles, or difficulties that affect their overall well-being.

While some challenges are a normal part of development, there are times when additional support can make a meaningful difference. Counselling provides a safe, supportive space where youth and teens can explore their thoughts and emotions, develop healthy coping strategies, and build confidence in navigating life's challenges.

Every young person is unique, and therapy is tailored to meet them where they are while respecting their individual experiences, strengths, and goals.

  • Young people may benefit from counselling for a variety of concerns, including:

    • Anxiety and excessive worry

    • Stress and emotional overwhelm

    • Low self-esteem and confidence challenges

    • School-related stress and academic pressures

    • Friendship and social difficulties

    • Family conflict and communication challenges

    • Life transitions and changes

    • Emotional regulation difficulties

    • Neurodiversity-related challenges

    • Trauma and difficult life experiences

Sometimes parents recognize that their child is struggling, while other times youth and teens seek support because they feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure how to manage what they are experiencing.

Counselling can help create greater understanding, resilience, and emotional well-being during these important developmental years.

  • With more than a decade of experience working within the education system, including special education and alternative education settings, I have extensive insight into the emotional, social, and developmental challenges that young people face today.

I work collaboratively with youth, teens, and families to strengthen communication, build emotional awareness, and support healthy relationships. My approach is grounded in connection, safety, and respect, creating an environment where young people can feel heard, understood, and supported without judgement.

Rather than focusing solely on symptoms or behaviours, therapy seeks to understand the underlying experiences and needs that may be contributing to current challenges. Together, we work to develop practical tools and strategies that support long-term growth and well-being.

  • I have experience working with youth who identify as neurodiverse, including those with:

    • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

    • Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

    • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

    • Other unique cognitive and learning profiles

Neurodiversity is not something that needs to be "fixed." Instead, counselling can help young people better understand themselves, develop strategies that work for their unique strengths and challenges, and build confidence in navigating school, relationships, and everyday life.

Therapy can also provide support for managing anxiety, emotional regulation difficulties, social challenges, self-esteem concerns, and the stress that sometimes accompanies neurodivergent experiences.

  • For many families, the education system can feel difficult to navigate. Questions about accommodations, support services, learning plans, and advocacy can quickly become overwhelming.

Because of my extensive experience working in schools, I can help youth and parents better understand available supports, navigate educational systems, and advocate for their needs. My goal is to help families feel informed, empowered, and supported as they work toward creating positive educational experiences.

  • Counselling is not only about addressing challenges, it is also about helping young people discover their strengths, build resilience, and develop the skills they need to thrive.

Whether a youth is struggling with anxiety, school pressures, emotional regulation, family challenges, or neurodiversity-related concerns, therapy can provide a supportive space to foster growth, confidence, self-understanding, and stronger relationships.

Together, we can work toward helping youth and teens feel more connected, capable, and supported as they navigate life's challenges.
